The Film 'Together' Can Be Streamed, and It Has the Power to Test Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate horror films: Sit down with your significant other and stream Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform on Hulu. At first glance, it may seem like conventional physical horror, but inside Together lies a intense examination about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Delving into Relationship Dynamics

Together marks the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a unique chemistry to their roles, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim relocate from the urban environment to the country for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches cease. Together becomes as much a deep dive into the psyche of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their new home, a violent storm occurs, and the two tumble into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence starts to affect the couple. This force creates a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding emotional intimacy.

The entire film is a methodically building horror experience, interspersing moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) body horror, and authentically humorous interactions (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Michael Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his network of friends. He is terrified of the concept of totally forfeiting his sense of self in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the circumstance he can’t drive and relies on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Tim and Millie grapple with the kind of problems that are inherent in any relationship after ten years. At their core, they still love one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the supernatural forces in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in harmony.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a strong argument for remaining unattached. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film actually helped them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could potentially serve as a great barometer of how you think about commitment. Will the conclusion inspire anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your other half and state, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform now.
