Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including angels, demons, and sinister influences growing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
